"Islamo-fascism Awareness Week" Response Kit

Taking action to speak out against the divisive efforts of David Horowitz’s "Islamo-fascism Awareness Week" on your campus is crucial to promoting constructive, reasoned discussion of these issues. This kit helps equip you to respond intelligently and productively to Horowitz’s offensive misinformation.

While Campus Progress encourages students to speak out strongly against misinformation and intolerance, we urge students and college administrators to respect the free speech and association rights of the event organizers. Not only is free speech an inalienable right, but any attempt to shut down these events will only give Horowitz and his partners in fear-mongering undeserved legitimacy.

Instead of stooping to Horowitz’s level, here are a couple constructive ways to respond:

  • Use the attached materials to educate yourself on “Islamofascism” so you can engage the issue appropriately
  • Write an op-ed debunking "Islamofascism" for your local and student newspaper
  • Send letters to the editors of your local and student newspapers
  • Hold panels featuring informed discussion and progressive speakers
  • Start a consciousness-raising campaign about “Islamo-fascism Awareness Week” using the attached flyer
  • Blog about "Islamo-fascism Awareness Week" events on CampusProgress.org
  • Attend “Islamo-fascism Awareness Week” events and ask challenging, respectful questions
