Action Grants

Do you have a great idea for a campaign for change on a campus, local, or national issue, but need some help getting started or achieving victory? Campus Progress is interested in helping you advance your issue campaign. We can provide help with planning, recruitment, and funding for your campaign.

We want to work with you to increase the impact and effectiveness of your issue campaign by providing resources to help you be successful. As a recipient of a Campus Progress Action Grant, you are eligible for funding, support from Campus Progress / Center for American Progress staff, access to our wide variety of organizing workshops and trainings, and contact with policy experts on your particular issue.

Campus Progress offers grants of $200 to $1,000 to students working on innovative and hard-hitting educational and advocacy campaigns. We want to help students leverage their passion, creativity, ideas, and organizing talents to create progressive change on their campuses and in their communities. Whether it's to promote clean energy on your campus; advocate for a living wage at your school or in your state; fight genocide in Sudan; etc., we want to help!

Eligibility

  • Action Grants are given only to student organizations registered with their schools. We will consider applications from new student groups that have not yet, but we will not disburse the grant until this requirement is met.

  • Action Grants are given for specific issue campaigns - not general organizational funding, charitable works, publications, or specific events. If your campaign is focused on changing the behavior of an individual or group (for example, making your campus a welcoming place for GLBT students or getting your Governor to enforce environmental regulations), then your campaign is probably eligible.

  • If you need help to organize a specific event, as opposed to a long-term campaign, please click here to request assistance from the Campus Progress Events Team, or email speakers@campusprogress.org.
We also offer grants for progressive campus publications. You can find out more by checking out the Campus Progress Publications Network, applying for a grant for your campus publication, or contacting us at publications@campusprogress.org.

  • Action Grants are to be used in accordance with the purposes of a nonprofit educational 501(C)(3) organization only, which can include campaigns on ballot initiatives, legislation; changing school policies, etc., but never partisan or electoral candidate activities.

  • Action Grants are very rarely given to student groups that are chapters of other national, state, or regional organizations, especially if those organizations are not led by students. We want to devote our scarce resources mostly to campus groups that don’t have other potential sources of national support. We do occasionally make exceptions, so let us know of any extenuating circumstances that we should be aware of when making our decision.
If you are part of a chapter of a national organization, we can still help with events related to your campaign. Click here to request assistance from the Campus Progress Events Team, or email speakers@campusprogress.org.

  • Action Grants cannot be used on salaries or stipends, or on alcoholic beverages. Click here to see some of the ways that students have used Action Grants to make their voices heard.
