Iraq War Veterans
Robert and Tina Bean served in the United States Air Force from 2002-2006. Tina worked as a Photographer and Robert as a Computer Network Technician. They were married in September of 2005, and a few months later received orders to deploy to Balad Air Base, Iraq.
They deployed to Iraq in January 2006 not to be a Photographer and Computer Network Technician, but as guards. Neither had any training in this type of work. They experienced many of the difficulties common with any deployment, and some that were unique to them. Tina was in the midst of a mortar attack when one landed close by her. She was medically evacuated out of Iraq early. All the while, Robert was told to go back to work as if nothing were wrong.
Following their discharge from the military in December of 2006, both have become active voices in the fight to stop the war and bring the troops home. Both are members of Iraq Veterans Against the War and outspoken advocates for returning veterans and deployed troops.
Currently they live in Tigard, Oregon and devote their time to activism, and completing their Bachelors degrees.
